Returns & Replacements

At Ekamjot Traders Limited (Ekamjot Musical & Carrom Board), we stand behind every harmonium, tabla, carrom board and audio system we sell If something goes wrong, we aim to resolve it fairly through repair, replacement, exchange or, in rare cases, refund – always in line with New Zealand consumer guarantees

1. Our general approach

  • Our first priority is to repair a faulty item where that is reasonable and safe
  • If the same problem keeps coming back, or the fault is major, we move to replacement of the product
  • Refunds are only considered in special situations where there is a big fault and repair or replacement is not appropriate or possible
  • We do not offer general change-of-mind refunds
  • Custom and special orders are treated as non-refundable for change of mind once confirmed
This policy applies alongside your rights under New Zealand consumer law

2. Faulty or damaged items on arrival

Please check your order as soon as it arrives If your item has a manufacturing fault or arrives damaged:
  • Contact us within 24 hours of delivery
  • Use any of the following:
  • Tell us:
    • Your name and contact details
    • Order number or proof of purchase
    • Which product is affected
    • A clear description of the fault or damage
What happens next:
  • We will assess the issue and decide the best solution – usually repair first, then replacement if needed
  • If the damage is clearly caused by the courier (for example NZ Post), we will lodge a claim with the courier
  • Once the claim is accepted, we will arrange the return and replacement of the item for you

3. Incorrect item received

If we have sent you the wrong item by mistake:
  • Contact us as soon as you notice the issue
  • We will cover the reasonable costs of correcting our mistake, including return shipping where required
  • We will then send you the correct product, or otherwise resolve the issue in line with New Zealand consumer law

4. Lost parcels

If an item is lost by NZ Post or is lost in our process:
  • We will work with the courier to investigate the missing parcel
  • Once confirmed as lost, we will arrange a replacement for you, subject to stock availability

5. Change-of-mind returns and exchanges

We are a specialist retailer and do not run a general change-of-mind refund programme Change-of-mind refunds:
  • We do not offer refunds for simple change-of-mind
Order cancellation:
  • An order can usually be cancelled if it has not yet been shipped – please contact us as soon as possible
  • Once an item has been shipped, cancellations or returns for change-of-mind are generally not accepted
Exchange for unused, unopened items:
  • If a product is unused, unopened and in resaleable condition, we may, at our discretion, offer an exchange only (no refund)
  • This is considered on a case-by-case basis and within a reasonably short period after delivery or pickup
  • Any return shipping costs and any price difference between products are normally your responsibility
  • If the item has already been shipped out and is being returned purely for change-of-mind, a 20% restocking fee may apply, in addition to shipping costs
If you are unsure, please contact us before placing your order so we can help you choose the right product

6. Custom and special orders

Custom and special orders include:
  • Items specially ordered in for you
  • Custom colours, tunings or specific brands and models requested outside our normal listed range
For these orders:
  • A 50% deposit is required to confirm the order
  • Custom and special orders are generally non-refundable and non-returnable for change-of-mind once the order is confirmed and deposit paid
  • If there is a genuine fault with a custom item, it will still be handled by repair, replacement or, in rare cases, refund in line with New Zealand consumer law

7. After-sales faults and warranty support

If your product develops a fault after some use:
  • Contact us with your proof of purchase and details of the problem
  • We provide warranty support on musical items and audio systems such as:
    • Harmoniums
    • Tablas
    • Dholak, dhol, manjira and related percussion
    • Audio equipment like speakers, microphones, mixers and similar gear
How we handle it:
  • We will first look at repairing the item, including replacing reeds, fixing leaks and other common issues for harmoniums
  • If the same fault keeps returning again and again, or if there is a major fault, we will move to replacement of the product
  • In special cases where neither repair nor replacement is appropriate, we may offer a refund in line with our obligations under consumer law
Carrom boards and accessories:
  • Carrom boards and accessories do not have a separate written warranty, but any defective items are still handled by repair or replacement as appropriate under New Zealand consumer guarantees
Paid repairs:
  • We also offer paid repair services for suitable products after the warranty period, and in many cases even for items not originally purchased from us

8. Who pays for return shipping

Return shipping costs depend on the situation
  • Incorrect item sent by us
    • We cover the reasonable costs of putting it right, including return shipping where required
  • Change-of-mind exchange
    • You are normally responsible for all shipping costs (sending the item back to us and shipping of the new item), as well as any price differences and any restocking fee if applicable
  • Other situations (for example faults or courier damage)
    • We will discuss the practical details with you as part of resolving the problem, always aiming to act fairly and in line with New Zealand consumer law

9. How to request a repair, return or replacement

If you need help with a product you have bought from us:
  1. Contact Manjit and the Ekamjot team:
  2. Provide:
    • Your full name and contact number
    • Order number or proof of purchase
    • Product name and a short description of the issue
    • Whether the item was damaged on arrival, faulty from the start, or developed a fault over time
  3. We will:
    • Talk through the issue with you
    • Explain the next steps – repair, replacement, exchange or, in rare cases, refund
    • Let you know how and where to return the item if that is required

10. Keeping things fair and simple

Our goal is to keep every customer satisfied over the long term We choose and prepare our harmoniums, tablas, carrom boards and audio systems carefully, and we check instruments before they leave our shop If something is not right, please contact us directly – we prefer to talk, understand the situation properly and find a fair solution, rather than letting a small issue become a big problem
